While newer disasters have grabbed recent headlines, one local man is doing his best to keep his community focused on those suffering closer to home.
“I know there’s a lot of other stuff going on, like the California wildfires,” said Goochland County resident Rick Grizzell, who owns Premier Properties Realty. “But Appalachia is close enough to us. These are our people, and we need to be taking care of them.”
Hurricane Helene swept through the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia nearly four months ago, and Grizzell says the people there continue to suffer and are losing resources. He says they feel abandoned and are pleading not to be forgotten.
“Every time I tell them, ‘I won’t forget about you,’” Grizzell said.
