LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Over the decades, documents, photos and countless memories from a Lincoln nonprofit have piled up. A collaboration between University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries and the Malone Center aims to make those historical items more accessible, in an effort to highlight the center and the community it serves.
The project is titled “Recovering Lost Stories: Digitizing the History of the Malone Community Center, the Heartbeat of an ‘Invisible’ Black Community in Lincoln, Nebraska.” The team will digitize more than 6,000 items thanks to a $235,000 grant.
“It is important because it documents that we were here. Our kids need to know that,” Charlene Maxey-Harris, Associate Dean of Libraries for Collections and Resource Management with UNL, said.
