Resource fair aimed to provide connections for low-vision and blind people [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The city of Mobile partnered with the Alabama Federation of the Blind Mobile Chapter for a special event today.

The goal of the collaboration was to give blind and low-vision individuals opportunities to connect through various organizations, activities, and vendors at the Breaking Down Barriers Resource Fair.

Don Rose, chief procurement officer and Americans with Disability Act coordinator for the city of Mobile, spoke about ways the community can get involved.

“Supporting persons with disabilities is a team approach, and the city has a big role,” Rose said. “The city has a lot of federal requirements to comply with, but we also have a teambuilding approach because, obviously, it’s our city and we want to make resources available for persons with vision disabilities, but all disabilities, really. This brings those resources to bear.”

Rose also discussed what the city is doing to support the ADA.
