Residents gather for support on overdose awareness day [Video]

Horizon Behavioral Health and the Central Virginia Addiction Recovery Resources Coalition jointly hosted an overdose awareness event Aug. 31, 2024.

Small purple flags stood in the grass at the Lower Bluffwalk near the Water Bearer statue downtown to honor those who lost their lives due to overdose in the Central Virginia area since 2020.

Horizon Behavioral Health and the Central Virginia Addiction Recovery Resources (CVARR) Coalition jointly hosted an overdose awareness event Saturday night where more than 30 community members attended to add support and learn about local resources.

A proclamation signed by Lynchburg Mayor Stephanie Reed was read by Marques Bush, deputy chief of operations for the Lynchburg Fire Department, recognizing the day.

Before reading the proclamation, Bush emphasized to those who are struggling with addiction or know someone who is, that they are not alone.
