The impacts of the hurricane are still being felt continuously by most in the Western North Carolina mountains. Many residents in McDowell, Avery and other surrounding counties are still without power.
Much of that area is so heavily damaged it remains unreachable. On top of that, a major local medical supply company there has been forced to shut down due to storm damage.
Reports out of McDowell County say that much of the Old Fort Community has been destroyed. Churches and other community organizations are assisting people by distributing food and supplies.
