Redding dedicates new, feature rich park in downtown

Redding, Calif. – After over two years of planning and construction, Reddings’ newest park opened Friday with a special celebration. Whistle Stop Park on Market Street right next to the downtown Shasta College building was designed to honor the city’s historical connection with the railroad.

Travis Menne, Director of community services for the city of Redding tells Action News Now that it took several partnerships to bring the park from an idea to reality that include the McConnell Foundation, Shasta Builders’ Exchange, K2 Development, and CalTrans to name a few. “It’s just great to have that public space and give that to the community” he added.

The park itself has many unique features that include a covered stage area, shade trees, seating areas, and even a fog misting system designed to keep people cool in spite of high temperatures.
