Rebuild Expo connects flood-affected community with resources [Video]

OXFORD, CT (WFSB) – In response to the historic flooding that devastated the Valley on Sunday, an effort is underway to connect affected community members with essential resources.

In Oxford, the memory of last Sunday’s catastrophic flooding is still fresh.

“It was scary,” said Susan Kovacs, Oxford. “I was watching the water coming from behind my property, through my property, into the property of the woman across the street.”

Nearly a week later clean-up has begun, but for many the road to recovery will be long.

“Mostly our basements. Everything down there is a loss,” Kovacs said.

“Very few people had flood insurance because it’s not a flood zone,” said Marybeth Nelsen, Oxford.

While some wait to hear back from their insurance companies and others wait for federal assistance, the community is taking action now.
