RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Rapid City’s Common Council approved a two-year contract between the Children’s Home Society and the Rapid City Police Department to support case management services.
RCPD’s Community Engagement Division is made up of seven people, both law and non-law enforcement. When a young person has experienced a traumatic event, law enforcement can refer to the Community Engagement Team to help provide support.
RCPD Community Violence Interruption Program Manager Jamie Kirsch said adding the Children’s Home Society partnership to the team will allow the division to help earlier on.
“Law enforcement is often charged with handling the crisis, but doesn’t always have the opportunity to provide that stabilization that families require. Having a case manager from the Children’s Home Society to support those needs is going to be super beneficial to us,” Kirsch said.
