JOPLIN, Mo. — An international potluck with international cuisines welcomed every member of the community this afternoon.
Refugee and Immigrant Services and Education, or “RAISE,” hosted a community potluck at Landreth Park in Joplin.
The non-profit helps legal refugees and immigrants settle into their new communities.
RAISE prepared hamburgers, chicken, and steak for everyone, but guests also brought cuisines from their own cultures for everyone to try.
Its goal is to help bring the community together while celebrating each other’s differences.
“Joplin isn’t just this divided community because we have refugees and immigrants coming in, it’s a gathering of everybody that we can celebrate and that we can just take hands with one another and show that this is the place to be. Joplin is a welcoming community and we want you to be here,” said Kaden Propps, RAISE Development and Engagement Coordinator.
