Rain, storms could to return to Omaha this week before a warm, sunny weekend [Video]

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to return to the Omaha area on Thursday and Friday, but the rain is expected to clear up for a warm and sunny weekend.

After Wednesday’s clear and temperate weather — a welcome break from the triple-digit heat earlier in the week — a storm system will move into the area on Thursday afternoon, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen. Chances for storms will increase into the evening, with the best chance for thunder and lightning occurring after midnight. 

“The storm could produce some hail and wind, but the chances are not particularly great,” Nicolaisen said. 

Clouds will stay in the area on Friday, with about a 25% chance of storms in the morning and early afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday should bring nearly ideal weather for June in Nebraska, with highs around 80 degrees, sunny skies and light winds.
