Civil society organisations, including the Media Monitoring Africa and the SOS Support Public Broadcasting Coalition, have called for the withdrawal of the SABC Bill.
They say it is being hurriedly pushed through and it fails to address a crucial aspect for the public broadcaster’s funding.
The Bill was introduced to Parliament last year by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies and seeks to repeal the Broadcasting Act of 1999.
To talk more about his concerns and the submission made to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, we are joined by William Bird, Director at the Media Monitoring Africa.
