Tackling campaign season waste is a big task that many organizations continue to take on. Drop-off locations for campaign yard signs are in select Metroparks across Lucas County.
“[They are] At the three composting sites that are already located in the Metroparks,” Scott Carpenter, the director of public relations for Metroparks Toledo, said. “So if you are already used to using those, you do not have to make an extra trip.”
Yard signs are made of plastics, paper, and metals, the combination of these usually means you can’t put them in your curbside recycling. Volunteers with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful collect, organize, and disperse the signs so that they can be recycled properly.
“That corrugated plastic that we send down to Southeast Ohio gets turned into guardrail blocks,” Adam Cassi, the executive director of Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful, said. “Then the guardrail blocks actually stay in Ohio.”
