Prescribed burn slowed Park Fire | News [Video]

Firefighters say a prescribed burn last fall near Cohasset helped protect the community from the Park Fire.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – Firefighters say a prescribed burn they did last fall near Cohasset helped protect the community from the Park Fire.

The prescribed burn was part of a larger 1,200-acre Loafer LLC vegetation management project. The goal was to build a fuel break to stop wildfires in the foothills near Cohasset and Forest Ranch.

That burned area helped slow the spread of the Park Fire in July, allowing people time to evacuate.

“Just the landscape, you could see the fire was coming up with a lot of energy and it hit that prescribed fire unit and stopped it,” CAL FIRE said. “We still have grass in those units. The first night it helped out a lot. It was able to give us time to get resources in there.”
