The Victorian branch of the CFMEU will be referred to the state’s anti-corruption watchdog IBAC, following allegations uncovered by Nine’s newspapers and 60 Minutes
Premier Jacinta Allan labelled the alleged behaviour as ”thuggish and appalling” while addressing reporters in a press conference today.
The comments followed a joint investigation which uncovered alleged criminal links within the construction industry.
Allan said she had asked Labor’s national executive to immediately suspend the CFMEU construction division from the Victorian Labor Party.
All political donations from the union have also been banned during this period.
“Unions protect workers. But what we’ve seen isn’t unionism – it’s self-interested thuggery at its worst,” Allan said.
“I express my personal and deep-felt disgust at these activities and the people who perpetuated them.
“This rotten culture must be pulled out by its roots.”
