COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina education leaders said Wednesday they’re assessing how much their information might have been compromised after PowerSchool, a major cloud computing tool for schools, suffered a data breach.
The South Carolina Department of Education said PowerSchool informed it late Tuesday of a cybersecurity breach involving its PowerSource portal. The agency said the breach allowed unauthorized access to certain consumer data from PowerSchool’s student information systems.
The state said PowerSchool told them personally identifiable information was compromised. It’s unclear what exact information could have been taken, and the Department of Education said they’re still working to determine the full scope of the breach.
