PowerSchool data breach hits Elkhorn Public Schools [Video]

The Elkhorn Public Schools were affected by a nationwide data breach of personal student information, the district announced Friday.

The data breach affected PowerSchool, the company that provides the district’s student information system, according to a press release.

Personal student information of both current and former students at Elkhorn and other districts across the country was downloaded by an unauthorized user who gained access to PowerSchool via compromised credentials, the press release said.

PowerSchool has stated the incident has been contained and it has taken actions to prevent the information from being used or shared publicly, according to the press release.

No other Elkhorn Public Schools computer systems were affected, the release said.

“EPS will continue to partner with PowerSchool to ensure they take all necessary steps to prevent any future occurrences and protect this information at the highest level,” the release said.
