BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Days before the 2024 election, a voter advocacy group from Washington D.C. is making multiple stops in Alabama to remind voters to fulfill their civic duty.
The Power of the Ballot Bus Tour is travelling to seven states.
The tour is put on by the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, a non-partisan organization that strives to promote voter participation in Black and underserved communities.
“People are voting issues, not candidates, and so what we’re making sure that we’re giving people that encouragement that they need and reminding them that they own that vote,” said Melanie Campbell, the organization’s president and CEO.
The group was also trying to fire up young voters at HBCUs, which is why the tour included a stop at this year’s Magic City Classic.
The nonprofit was also joined by Commissioner Sheila Tyson.
