Potato STIC – Musanze, Rwanda [Video]

The Potato Service, Training, and Innovation Centre (STIC) is dedicated to advancing clean potato seed production through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) involving the University of Rwanda College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (UR-CAVM), Rwanda Polytechnic (IPRC) Musanze, and the Seed Potato Fund (SPF-JV). This collaboration ensures the production and commercialization of high-quality potato seeds, vital for transforming potato farming into a competitive and sustainable industry.

Our mission is to establish a regional center of excellence in clean potato seed production, enhancing food security, nutrition, and economic growth. The STIC not only focuses on seed production but also provides comprehensive training and research opportunities, benefiting students and interns by equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce.

By integrating training, research, and business components, the Potato STIC offers a holistic approach to agricultural education and community engagement. This strategic partnership strengthens the potato value chain, driving innovation and supporting local farmers with quality seeds and modern agricultural practices.

This project is part of the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP), funded by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Nuffic.

This institutional collaboration project is part of MSM’s Expert Centre on Emerging Economies. The department is an expert center on local economic development in emerging and developing markets.
