Post Falls police seek keyless access to gated communities [Video]

POST FALLS, Idaho – Police in Post Falls asked the city to provide keyless entry systems to apartment buildings in gated communities to improve response times in emergencies.

The proposed ordinance would allow police similar access as the fire department. It would require property owners or developers to install and maintain keyless entry systems on new buildings or remodels, but not on existing structures.

“We wanted to be able to provide the police the same type of access that fire officials have because often times they’re the first responders to emergencies or anything else or uh needing to deal with some of those life threatening situations,” said the City of Post Falls.

The ordinance would apply to common areas within these buildings, not individual apartments. There is currently no information on when the city council will consider this ordinance.
