Portlanders came together to remember those from the homeless community who died. This follows a county report that recorded a record number of deaths last year.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Portlanders gathered in Old Town on Saturday evening, the longest night of the year, to light candles and remember those who died on the city’s streets.
“These are people that were fully rounded, amazing individuals that will be missed,” said Liz Starke, development director at Rose Haven.
Multiple organizations participated in the event, including Ground Score, Sisters of the Road, Street Roots, PDX Saints Love, Wapato Island Farm, Blanchet House and Central City Concern. Volunteers distributed blankets, tents and warm clothes to help people survive winter nights.
