PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An off-duty Portland Police sergeant is on paid administrative leave after he was arrested and then cited in Minnesota when he crashed a rental car while under the influence of alcohol back in July, authorities announced on Thursday.
On the night of July 3, Sgt. Patrick Mawdsley, an 18-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau, was detained by Meeker County Sheriff’s deputies for impaired driving after crashing his rental car, Portland Police officials said in a press release.

At the time, he was armed with his police-issued pistol, authorities said.
After a brief investigation, Mawdsley was cited for careless driving and carrying while under the influence of alcohol. He was released from custody after the citation was served, officials said.
