PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland Police are preparing for potentially violent protests to break out on or around election day.
“I think there is an increased amount of sensitivity to the election and attention that people are feeling and communities across the country not just to Portland,” said Portland Police Chief Bob Day.
Downtown Portland is putting up its walls in preparation.
“I fully understand the need for that preparation. The responsibility they have to their own business into their customers.”
On Tuesday morning, Chief Day said that his agency has been preparing for over a year, they have sent outreach officers to national training in Ohio and their incident commanders attended international conferences in London.
“We can say confidently we are looking at best practices across the board,” Day said. “We brought in an independent consultant who reviewed our actions over 2020, took that feedback have embedded that in, brought in the process.”
