PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Two years after purchasing the historic property, the Portland Japanese Garden announced it is looking to sell the Japanese Institute campus.
The campus was set to hold workshops, classes, seminars, and other events to teach the community about the art of Japanese gardening.
It was intended to be open by the end of this year, but now they’re looking to sell it.
In a message sent to members, The Portland Japanese Garden board of trustees said the location initially “felt like an ideal fit” but the pandemic has since then altered the landscape of the city, “from the broader economy to escalating construction costs,”
They added that the 3.6-acre property needed significant environmental and structural upgrades.
Leadership says the sale will not impact the garden itself.
