‘Poor and pathetic’ cry New Zealand fans as Kiwis call for IFRU apology for botched national anthem before Ireland game [Video]

ALL BLACKS supporters at Aviva Stadium were left surprised when the New Zealand anthem was cut short before their Ireland test on Friday.

After the te reo verse had finished the audio cut off before the English-language verse had been sung.

Fans on social media noticed the abbreviated version, with many noting that the Irish rugby team sang their two songs before they played – Ireland’s Call and Amhrán na bhFiann.

Kiwi sports channell Gold Sport commentator Elliott Smith said New Zealanders in the audience seemed surprised to notice that their anthem had been cut short.

He said: “It was a strange moment – and organisers will be asking questions because normally anthems are treated with appropriate respect.

“It contrasted with the crowd’s fabulous response to the stirring haka.”

Winger Caleb Clarke was filmed audibly cussing out those in charge after the mistake had been made.
