Political experts say compromise will be key for more conservative and divided Arizona legislature [Video]

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Now that Republicans have gained the majority in both the Arizona House and Senate, political experts say compromise will be key for the next couple years.

State Democrats raised millions of dollars in campaigning to flip the legislature blue and were unsuccessful. Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs still has two more years left of her term.

According to Douglas Cole of political consulting company HighGround, not only will this split government be more of a challenge for the governor to forward her agenda, but he said this can also mean challenges for the legislature to pass its priority.

”Now the number one responsibility of the legislature to the governor is to pass the budget,“ Cole said. ”Their spending priorities are very different, so they’re going to have to find a middle ground. They’re going to have to—both the legislature and the Governor’s Office are going to have to find a path to compromise on some key policy issues.
