IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (TMX/Gray News) – Authorities in Colorado are searching for Doberman puppies after a breeder was killed in his home last week and a litter was stolen, likely to be sold.
Dog breeder Paul Peavey, 57, was found dead in his home in Idaho Springs on Saturday, three days after he was reported missing.
According to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, as many as 10 puppies, which can sell for thousands of dollars, are unaccounted for.
Investigators said the puppies may have been sold “through social media sites or by other means sometime since Tuesday, Aug. 20.”
Peavey’s friend Bruce Boynton told KMGH he was worried this week when he couldn’t get a hold of Peavey and took matters into his own hands.
“I’m the one that went up to the property and realized things were awry to the point where the puppies were gone, the house was tossed, anything of value missing,” Boynton said.
