A car chase in New York City ended in a shootout. It was only after shots had been fired that the officers noticed there was a child in the vehicle.

On December 6th, 2024, at around 3 PM, Police Officers responded to a ShotStopper alert. ShotStopper is a gunshot detection system that uses sensors to identify gunfire and notify the relevant authorities.
A witness described a vehicle with a damaged out-of-state plate leaving the scene, and the car was quickly tracked down. During a press conference, NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey explained that the suspect vehicle became aware they were being followed. The suspect sped up and ran several red lights as officers pursued.
Unfortunately, the situation rapidly escalated when the police stopped the suspect vehicle.
