Police investigate after man found shot in Wiscasset, Maine [Video]

Just after 2 a.m., police said they found 60-year-old Darren Mitchell in the yard of a Wiscasset residence with a gunshot wound to his leg.

WISCASSET, Maine — Police searched a home in Wiscasset a man was found in the yard early Wednesday morning with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Officers responded to the residence around 2:15 a.m. to reports of suspicious activity and “a male subject yelling for help,” Wiscasset Police Department officials said in a news release. 

A man, identified as 60-year-old Darren Mitchell of Brunswick, was found injured with an apparent gunshot wound in the yard.

Mitchell was taken to Memorial Hospital by Wiscasset EMS, then transported to Maine Medical Center to be treated for his injury, which was not considered life-threatening, the release stated.

Police investigating the case said it appeared several people had fled the area before law enforcement arrived, including two people of interest, according to the release.
