Plymouth County bond issue results leave mixed emotions [Video]

LE MARS — Same county, different school bond issue results.

Voters in Le Mars on Tuesday approved a $49.97 million bond issue to build a new elementary school to replace its three aging elementary buildings. Needing 60% approval to pass, the measure received 61% of the vote, 4,254-2,671, to pass on its first attempt.

“This is a huge economic driver for the community. When people move to a community, one thing they are going to look at is what are their schools like. It’s a competitive world, and right now buildings from 1939 and 1971 are not keeping up with the competition,” Le Mars Community School District superintendent Steve Webner said prior to the election.
