RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A woman charged with larceny and embezzlement from an Indian Tribal Organization changed her plea in federal court Monday.

Madonna Peterson, 58, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 from her job as the Chief Financial Officer at the Wild Horse Butte Community Development Corporation.

Peterson wrote 59 fake paychecks to herself, totaling $70,000, as well as fake reimbursement requests between January 2017 and July 2021.

A large portion of the funds she stole were spent at casinos.
