Plans for big changes coming to the New Haven Green [Video]

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – Big plans are in the works to change the New Haven Green.

“As folks may know, the green is privately owned, but we have a real good collaboration with the proprietors of the green and community members about what this space could be,” said Mayor Justin Elicker, (D), New Haven.

The proposals range from public bathrooms to a space for performances, raised intersections to improve safety, brick walkways, and more, focusing around the flagpole and fountain.

“Some of the stuff I find most exciting is an outdoor cafe, potentially a beer garden, come after work, or in the morning, sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee outdoors,” Elicker said.

Thanks to five million dollars in state money, a clear vision is taking shape when it comes to upgrading and improving the old green.
