Planned visitors center, other North Omaha developments to draw more tourism [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – On Tuesday, the Omaha Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) unveiled a plan to redevelop six buildings along the North 24th Street corridor.

“In the last few years, things have begun to turn around,” said President Michael Maroney.

The OEDC had renderings for three of the buildings available. Among them were a former bar, the old Salem Pantry building, and the former Signachur’s site.

“We’re getting ready to grow like a phoenix and make North Omaha exciting,” said community activist Preston Love, Jr.

Love announced one of the new developments will be the North Omaha Visitors Center.

The main idea is to increase tourism in North Omaha. Love said it will involve a lot of networking with groups when they come in from out of town.

“The National Black Nurses (Association), the Divine Nine—the sorority—the Black Golfers, the Black Surgeons, and on and on,” he said. “There are hundreds of Black organizations that have conferences every year—regional, national. We’re …
