Piscataquis Regional YMCA to close November 1st | Local News [Video]

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On November 1st the Piscataquis Regional YMCA located in Dover-Foxcroft will close its doors permanently after being in operation since 1988.

According to the Old Town-Orono YMCA, back in July of 2022, they merged with Piscataquis YMCA. On September 25th 2024 its board of directors voted to close the Piscataquis building.

In an October 4th press release from Old Town-Orono YMCA’s Facebook page, “After-effects of the pandemic, reduction in memberships, programming, and declining public funds” all contributed to its closure. They also stated, “Declining revenues and escalating expenses” made operations at the Piscataquis YMCA, “Financially unsustainable.”

The Piscataquis YMCA’s pool will be shutting down immediately and other services will be closing over the coming weeks. They say memberships and programming will be prorated and refunded and all memberships to the Piscataquis YMCA will be honored at the Old Town-Orono YMCA.
