Pima County adding nighttime security on Chuck Huckelberry Loop [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Pima County’s famous Chuck Huckelberry Loop will be getting some new security.

The county will station two security guards on the Loop to patrol at night, giving the county some eyes and ears on what happens on the Loop when the sun goes down.

The guards will begin on Aug. 27.

“The goal is just to ensure that our parks and facilities on the Loop are the safest that they can possibly be,” said Callie Norton, the community engagement coordinator at the county’s Parks & Recreation.

There have been complaints from the general public, a woman was seriously injured in an attack on the Loop, vandalism and drug use are concerns in the parks, ramadas, and restrooms.

“So we want to know where these kinds of things are happening,” Norton said. “They’re going to initially be focused on those facilities that we know that are being used inappropriately.”
