BEDFORD – Pickleball lovers in Bedford County, get ready.
Six pickleball courts are targeted at the county recreation facility on Bedford Avenue in the town of Bedford near Bedford Primary School. The Bedford County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously this week to approve a resolution authorizing advertising bids to construct the new courts.
The rec facility currently has tennis and basketball courts well past their usefulness and the new project is to replace those completely with the six pickleball courts, a basketball court and associated amenities such as fencing and benches, according to a county staff report.
“This upgraded facility will provide the County’s first outdoor pickleball courts,” the report said.
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., the county report added.
“While it started in the older adult community, it has grown into a multi-generational sport of choice,” the report said.
