Philadelphia Youth Network success summer career program [Video]

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There’s still plenty of summer left, and Philadelphia’s youth have been hard at work earning money and gaining work experience.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than five million teens ages 16-19 have summer jobs, which is the most we’ve seen since 2007. The Philadelphia Youth Network is celebrating the success of its summer career development programs, which not only provide teens with jobs but also training and mentorship.

The program offered almost 150 teens over 100 hours of paid work experience and 20 hours of classroom instruction. That’s something 16-year-old Reach Cyber Charter School student Britten Perkins can appreciate. He worked in the PYN office as a social media intern.

“Getting opportunities and internships during the summer can go on my resume and make me more of a worthy candidate for whatever position, whatever job I apply for,” he said.
