KETCHUM — A young mountain lion was euthanized last week in the Wood River Valley after Fish & Game officers say it killed a pet cat.
The cat had been let outside just a few minutes before the Wednesday attack, and the incident occurred within a six-foot-tall fenced back yard, according to a Fish and Game press release.
The lion was tracked from the backyard south of Ketchum to Highway 75 when the tracks could no longer be followed.
Because the lion entered a fenced backyard of a residence and killed a pet, the decision was made to set a trap at the residence to protect the safety of area residents and their pets.
