Pet Cat Covered in Flame Retardant Survives Colorado Wildfire [Video]

A cat is becoming a symbol of hope in Colorado after coming out of the Quarry Fire alive and sustaining only minor injuries.

The Director of Public Affairs for the Jefferson County Colo. Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), Mark Techmeyer, announced in a press conference on Friday, Aug. 2, that a firefighter had found the cat covered in flame retardant in the burn area of the Quarry Fire. The feline has since reunited with their owners.

“It had been covered in fire retardant. Think about this now: you have a cat that has been out there for four or five days, was close enough to the fire to be hit by the retardant,” Techmeyer said in a video published by the local news site ABC 7 Denver. “I can’t imagine how scared and trying to find its way – but that cat, to me, is the symbol of what we’ve been through here.”
