The person was able to make it out of the house at the time of the fire, but was severely burned, officials said.
SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A person who was critically injured in a Skowhegan house fire on Thursday died from their injuries early Friday morning.
The fire happened at a home on Waterville Road at around 3 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a press release.
One person did make it out of the house, but suffered severe burns. They were taken to Reddington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan in critical condition, Moss said.
That person was later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland due to the extent of their burn injuries, according to a news release from the state fire marshal’s office (FMO). They died early Friday morning.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is expected to confirm the person’s identity following an autopsy and DNA identification, the release stated.
The FMO is continuing to investigate the incident.
