Peoria non-profit seeking donations to help homeless transition from camps to housing [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – Phoenix Community Development Services is looking to help people currently living in homeless encampments transition into supportive housing.

The City of Peoria’s recent ban on public camping has left many in the homeless community seeking alternatives.

Donations were accepted at the former Methodist School of Nursing off St Mark Court. PCDS sought non-perishable food, household goods, and other essential items to assist individuals moving from encampments into permanent housing.

Organizers said the donations help individuals achieve self-sufficiency.

“For us, ending homelessness is about creating a pathway for everybody to be successful and achieving self-sufficiency,” said PCDS, CEO Christine Kahl. “This donation drive is certainly part of getting to be self-sufficient. Self-sufficient to live in your own place, make your bed, do laundry, and cook your own meals.”

Organizers hope this initiative will have a lasting impact on the community, aligning with their mission to empower individuals and provide safe, affordable housing.
