Peoria City Council expected to vote on city treasurer appointment next week [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – The City of Peoria appears to be ready to fill the vacant city treasurer’s job.

The city council is expected to vote Tuesday on Mayor Rita Ali’s appointment of interim city treasurer Chester “Chet” Tomczyk to fill the unexpired term of Stephen Morris.

Tomczyk was president and CEO of public television station WTVP for 18 years and its director of development for two years before he retired in 2014, according to a biography posted on the WTVP website. Since his retirement, he’s served as notary/auditor for the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.

If the city council approves his appointment, Tomczyk would take over immediately and hold the treasurer’s position until next April’s election.

The position has a $123,000 annual salary with an additional $8,000 stipend from the township.
