The bridge was blocked off with cement barricades for years, preventing students walking to and from James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy safely.

INDIANAPOLIS — A broken pedestrian bridge on the northeast side of Indianapolis has at long last been replaced.

In a social media post by the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, Indy DPW showed off new photos of the replacement bridge and thanked their contractor, F.A. Wilhelm Construction, for their work on the bridge.

We want to thank our contractor F.A. Wilhelm Construction for their hard work on replacing a pedestrian bridge along Mitthoeffer Road, just north of 42nd Street, in time for school to start. This bridge will replace one previously damaged by a car strike. pic.twitter.com/37wY1254jp
