We still don’t know if Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye will be the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots when the season starts. Apparently, neither does the team.

During his press conference Monday, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo was asked if the team knew who their starter for the regular season will be.

“We still don’t know right now,” Mayo said. “We have another preseason game and then a week after that. When I know, I’ll let you know.”

After drafting Maye with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Patriots have made their future at the quarterback position clear. However, the present is less certain.

The Patriots brought in Brissett as a veteran presence and as the presumed starter out of the gate while Maye developed behind the scenes. With Maye appearing to struggle early in camp, it looked like the way was clear for Brissett to start early.
