Pasco County homes must be inspected by electrician [Video]

Pasco County is requiring homes that were flooded during Hurricane Helene to be inspected, repaired by an electrician before power is restored.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Communities across Pasco County continue to recover from the devastating storm surge caused by Hurricane Helene. It’s estimated parts of the county saw 6 to 9 feet of storm surge. 

County officials say the worst hit areas were the Sea Ranch area of Hudson and Gulf Harbors in New Port Richey, where nearly every home took on water. 

County leaders say it’s a matter of safety. 

“This is recognized as best practice even by Florida’s Department of Emergency Management,” Pasco County Administrator Mike Carvalla said “As you’ve seen, homes catch fire, and salt water and electricity just don’t mix.”
