Ghana’s Parliament has refuted circulating videos on social media that claim Speaker Alban Bagbin has been invited to a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to negotiate a settlement regarding the Speaker’s announcement to declare four seats vacant.
Dr. Lawrence Kwarteng-Ashia, Deputy Director for Media Relations, whose signature was appended to a statement released on October 22, 2024, urged the public to treat the video with the contempt it deserves.
The statement clarified that the video is part of attempts by certain individuals to tarnish the Speaker’s reputation, noting that it is an old video taken on July 4, 2024, when the Rt. Hon. Speaker led a delegation to present the inaugural Democracy Cup to the President.
