Parents, teachers call for Albany school board to step down on day 8 of strike [Video]

ALBANY Ore. (KPTV) – Thursday was day eight of the teacher strike in Albany. The original demands from the teachers union were higher pay and smaller class sizes. But this week, teachers and parents have called for the entire school board to resign.

On Tuesday a petition started circulating online calling for the Albany school board to step down. In the first 48 hours, the petition got more than 1,000 signatures.

Middle school teacher Samantha Stroup said the petition shows the community is standing behind the striking teachers.

“And that the school board is the one who are stalling our procedures and progress of resolving a contract and getting back to school,” Stroup said, holding a sign that read “On strike for safe schools.”
