Parents plead for change after shooting leaves 80+ shell casings at park near N Portland preschool [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – While the Portland Police Bureau continues to insist gun violence across the city is declining, residents in neighborhoods such as Eliot and Boise continue to insist not enough is being done to protect those communities.

On Monday, PPB along with Mayor Ted Wheeler and other city officials, held a press conference downtown to discuss the current patrol plan in those areas, specifically historic Dawson Park.

“Using additional resources, to focus on specific parts of town that have been experiencing some difficulties,” Chief of Police, Bob Day said.

The increase in police presence comes at a time when local law enforcement is working to create better ties in communities of color, finding a balance between the need for protection and not over-policing.
