ROCHESTER, Minn. – Pamoja in Swahili means united. In Rochester Pamoja Women helps East African families with services such as food, health education and employment coaching.
They’ve been around officially for five years and have seen the Rochester population grow, especially the Somalian population.
“Even if they go to any other states people tend to bring them here and they have more people that can help, said co-founder Khadija Ali.
With a growing population they’ve seen more people at their food pantry. They used to be open every Tuesday and Wednesday but now are open every other Tuesday. On those days they see around 100-200 visitors. Co-founder Fatuma Ahmed says she knows firsthand the struggle of getting food.
