Organizations help Nebraskans with disabilities become self-advocates [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Organizations and lawmakers in the metro are combining efforts to encourage people with disabilities to share their experiences and advocate for change.

MSFoward, an Omaha gym for people with neurological conditions, hosted a question-and-answer event for people with disabilities, care partners, and community advocates.

Gym founder Daryl Kucera, who lives with multiple sclerosis, and Iowa District 20 Representative Joshua Turek, who was born with spina bifida, addressed various issues facing the disability community.

“Accessibility is often, in my mind, an afterthought,” said Kucera when speaking about problems he’s faced in some Omaha businesses.
