SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A press release sent out by South Dakotans against an Income Tax, the group opposing IM-28, provided names of 50 different organizations that have stood up against the measure.
Dakota News Now talked with the measure’s sponsor, Rick Weiland, about whether or not this opposition is starting to feel overwhelming.
We also talked with Sara Rankin, with the South Dakota Municipal League about how IM-28 is potentially stalling cities’ abilities to plan for their budgets.
The City of Pierre said that IM-28 is a wildcard factor in their budget. Opponents have said that the measure would take $51.5 million away from “already lean budgets.”
“This financial shortfall would cripple the city’s efforts to fix streets, maintain infrastructure, maintain parks and recreations, all the things their citizens come to rely on,” Sara Rankin, South Dakota Municipal League Executive Director said.
